Turtle Conservation in Odisha Coast


Project Swarajya has taken part in conservation of Olive Ridley Turtle. The Olive Ridley sea turtles an endangered species are given importance globally due to its significant contribution to the ecosystem. It is a spectacular event and a unique phenomenon when all gravid females arrive to nest in synchrony. Odisha, an eastern state of India is one out of three listed grounds where the Olive Ridleys migrate every year to build nests and lays their eggs. Rushikulya mouth in southern Odisha is one of the prominent mass nesting for these Turtles. Project swarajya in collaboration withwith ‘World Wild Fund for Nature-India’ working to provide protection to the nesting turtles, their nests and ensure safe passage to the emerging hatchlings in Rushikulya mouth River and Bahuda in Ganjam and Devi river mouth in Astaranga, Puri district.
